Why we built tauschool
Why tauschool is free for every student. What we've shipped for SPM Form 5 so far. And where it goes next — beyond Malaysia, beyond Form 5, beyond MCQ alone.
We start with a problem
If you are a parent in Malaysia, you have probably done the math. Tuition for the core subjects — Add Maths, Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, English — runs RM 600 to RM 2,000 a month per child during the SPM years, and isn't much cheaper in the years before. Multiply that by two children across the five secondary school years, and you are looking at six-figure spend on tuition alone.
We do not think exam preparation should depend on your parents' income.
What tauschool is
tauschool is a free practice platform for students sitting SPM (KSSM Form 1–5) and Cambridge IGCSE (Year 7–11). It is built around one idea: students learn by doing problems and getting the explanation right after.
So we made a lot of problems.
- Thousands of questions across KSSM Form 5, with Form 4 in active production
- Every question tagged to its DSKP code so you know exactly which part of the syllabus each question covers
- Three modes: Quick Drill (10 questions), Practice Set (20), Full Set (40), drawn from a curated chapter pool
- High-quality chapter notes that align directly with the questions
- Bilingual EN / BM throughout
No paywall. No account required to practise. No daily limit.
How it works
Pick your syllabus. Pick a subject. Pick a chapter. Choose a mode. Practise.
When you finish, you see what you got right, what you got wrong, and a written explanation for every question. Your progress saves to your account if you have one — across chapters, subjects, and over time.
That is it.
Where we go next
We are working on tauschool Pro, an optional subscription that adds:
- A larger pool of questions per chapter
- Detailed explanations on every question
- Insights into where exactly your understanding breaks down — by topic, by misconception, by chapter
- A learning flow with detailed notes, videos, and topic walkthroughs
Pro will be priced fairly. The free tier stays free, forever, with no engagement tricks.
Why this is free
A few reasons.
Education is the cheapest defense of a nation.— Edmund Burke
The honest version: teaching tools should reach as many students as possible. Paywalling MCQ practice for the world's most studied syllabuses does not sit right with us. The economics work — we will fund the free tier with ads, and with Pro subscriptions from students whose families can pay.
The strategic version: building something free at scale gives us reach and trust. Trust is the moat in education.
How we make questions
tauschool is independently built and bootstrapped. Every question goes through a multi-layer audit: deduplication checks to catch near-identical phrasings, syllabus alignment to confirm coverage of every official learning standard, originality checks against past papers and existing question banks, and notation and bilingual quality reviews. We verify chapter coverage against the official DSKP document before any question is written.
If something is wrong with a question, you can flag it, and we will fix it.
What you can do
If you are a student: try a quiz. Tell us what works and what does not.
If you are a parent: try the same quiz your child is sitting. Reassure yourself we are not wasting their time.
If you are a teacher: tell us what your students get wrong most. That is where we want to be sharpest.
You can email us at [email protected].
We will write more often as more of the platform comes online. Subscribe to the RSS feed if that is your thing.
